The Original Twinz

The Original Twinz Mark and Paul Rollins whose stage name is “The Original Twinz” was born and raised in Rockley, Christ Church, Barbados.

The Original Twinz did not grow up strangers to music as their mother Alison Rollins was an opera singer in the 1960’s and their father Peter Gitten’s was the lead singer and guitarist in the popular band called the “Drayton’s”. The Original Twinz first began singing in the Gospel Choir at their mother’s church at the tender age of 5. From there on they realized that music would be an integral part of their upbringing.

 

Learning to play the guitar and drums, they expanded their knowledge of music and began sampling in other genres.

As teenagers they moved to Bridgetown, Barbados and spent a lot of time in streets where they began to take interest in Reggae music. They performed at many stage shows in Barbados and throughout the Caribbean. In 1991, the Original Twinz performed at Reggae Fever, Reggae Dub Sound Clash where they became reggae champions and they were Entertainer(s) of the Year in Barbados in 1994. They have shared the stage with Beenie Man, Bounty Killer, Tony Rebel, Buju Banton, Mikey General, Luciano, Norris Man, Major Mackrel, Tiger, Shabba Ranks, Sluggy Ranks, Papa San and much more.

 

They achieved great success with songs like “Bad Boys”, “Sufferation in the Ghetto”, “Licensed Gun”, “Street Families”, and “Struggling” just to name a few.

Currently, the Original Twinz are very versatile artists as they possess the capability to sing almost any type of Genre of music.
